The Cortex News Service has moved it's headquarters to a skyplex in orbit of Shadow.

The CNS's previous headquarters were on the Core world of Sihnon. However, the office building was destroyed with an incendiary bomb. There have been no claims of responsibility, and police have no firm leads, but there is belief that the destruction of the building was done by Loyalists unhappy with the editorial support of the Independents on Shadow.

To find better protection and to be more centrally located to cover the Rim worlds, the CNS has moved into it's own skyplex above the moon. The CNS will broadcast from the station to all points of the Rim.

The skyplex has offices, broadwave studio, gift shop and living quarters for CNS employees. It can be visited here.

The CNS is also looking for new employees. It is especially looking for an anchor for the upcoming CNS broadwaves and for a mechanic to maintain CNS equipment and shuttles. Those interested can contact CNS CEO Tillery Woodhen.

The CNS is also offering new items for sale, including a new T-shirt and a coffee cup (OOC: with drinking anim). They are available at all CNS bureaus.

A new Firefly roleplay area is starting up. The planet is Paquin, according to Varahi Lusch, and will the the home of Companions.

A grand opening is planned for July 5 with an all day event. The schedule and SLurl are below.

Monday afternoon and evening, Hale's Moon was beset by several reaver attacks in rapid succession. Several injuries but no casualties reported

In early afternoon raids, Gabe Yazimoto, Sheriff Gallagher Aeon, Zade Karu, Reese Shawbridge, LilyBell Snoodle, Jai Raghilda, Finder Reluin fought off several waves of reavers who arrived in at least two different ship attacking both in Hale Proper and the Western Wasteland region.

The Cortex News Service has received this statement from the 12th Air Calvary based on Shadow:

Following the secession of the colony from the IAP, the Independent 12th Air Cavalry Carrier Battlegroup have taken station and established a continuous operating base on Shadow, rebuilding and re-opening Fort Liberty.  Although presented to the colonists as troops acting on orders from Parliament, intelligence gathered by 12th Cavalry pathfinders on rim and border worlds corroborates that the Alliance garrison holding Shadow was in support of the hard-line Loyalist faction within the federal military.  Up until the liberation and secession of Shadow the colony has been run as a de facto autocracy.  Now that the last Loyalist strongholds on the moon have been taken, the establishment of a representative civilian government is of the highest priority.  Until such times as first elections and machinery of government have been established the Independent Military will work with community leaders to ensure the infrastructure needed for the development of the colony and to safeguard all the settlements is guaranteed.  This includes engineering for new water purification plants, medical support and distribution of supplies and commodities.  After involving traders, community leaders and Captains who made Serenity station their home port, Admiral Leitner, Flag officer of the 12th Air Cavalry has issued the following statement in relation to the recent military operations:

“At approximately 1400hrs yesterday long range NAVTRAK scans detected multiple contacts encroaching Shadow airspace.  This has been the fourth incursion by forces hostile to the independence of the colony in the past two weeks.  In all cases the combat air patrol intercepted, engaged and either destroyed or forced hostile craft from the Moon and its outlying dependencies.  I can confirm that in the most recent engagement hostile troops were landed and under the cover of bombing raid on Fort Liberty made their way into the civilian settlement.  Air Cav Rangers stationed at Fort Liberty with help from civilian volunteers drove these forces back and both the bomber and its fighter escort were shot down.  We believe these hostiles to be Loyalist Alliance dissidents and with their growing strength on the outer rim and border worlds it highly probable that these attacks may well continue.

To that end, I have issued orders for the flagship of the 12th Cavalry Carrier Battlegroup, the ISV Elindor to establish an orbital defence patrol.  Other elements from the battlegroup will continue to fulfil their operational roles elsewhere.  In conjunction with the current civilian community leadership group, traders and private shipping captains I have been asked to let it made known that in line with Shadow’s Independence, trade tariffs to Parliamentarian corporations will no longer be levied against private freight hauliers and traders.  Permits and licences issued by the Alliance will recognised and honoured.  Private and passenger shipping with core world registry will not be refused clearance into Shadow air-space and we will continue to render aid, answer distress waves and perform rescue operations on any ship declaring an emergency regardless of the ship’s home port registry.

However, as of this date, slavery and bonded labour is hereby outlawed on Shadow.  Existing writs of indenture are considered forfeit.  Any ships suspected of transporting indentured or slave labourers will be subject to stop and search procedures by Independent military boarding parties until such time as the appropriate civilian authorities have been established.

SERENITY STATION, Shadow - Recent days have seen an increase in fighting around Shadow. A few days ago saw what have been called Alliance Loyalists attacking a small ship en route to Hale's Moon. Today saw a full on battle both in space and on the moon itself.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down and discuss the changes to this wave and it is owner, Mr. Tillery Woodhen.

KB:  Tillery Woodhen, editor and owner of CNS Cortex News Service since it’s inception in May 2007, has been busy providing you your news source, building channels and reporting on the entire alliance and independence verse. Recently, I had the chance to sit down with this media mogul and find out where he has been and what changes are to come for the wave

KB:  Mr. Woodhen, thinking back to May 2007, please tell me what you wanted when you founded the Cortex news Service

TW: Mogul? Really? (grins) I wanted to create a forum and information source for everyone in the 'verse. That was my goal from day one and it remains my goal now

KB:  There have been some noticeable changes with CNS hasn’t there? Things seem to have really taken off in the past few months... for example, you have recently constructed a new office in Sihnon. Tell me about your decision to build.

TW: It was related somewhat to our sudden growth. We've been based on Sihnon for a while now, but it was just a small office near the shuttleport. With our growth, and the importance of the CNS to the 'verse at large, I felt a need for the CNS to have a home worth of it's stature.

TW: I still need to finish some of the decorating. (smiles)

KB:  Mr. Woodhen, I have heard you have also invested considerably in distribution… is that true?

TW: Absolutely. We have been introducing new kiosks where people can also subscribe to the CNS directly. We're also working on video broadcasting to all parts of the 'verse.

KB:  With your new media format and new vending, how has the response been?

Have you seen an increase in circulation?

TW: We have, but I believe it's more the quality of the news. We've gained wonderful new staff members who have been on top of breaking news in their areas. They're the reason for our increased circulation.

KB:  Are you planning on adding any thing new to the CNS wave? Calendars, Advertizing, Classified?

TW: We definitely plan to be adding calendars in the near future. We're working on a way to deliver a calendar to everyone who's subscribed to the NewsWire.

TW: And we have always been open to advertising. All anyone has to do is contact us.

KB:  What would be the best way to do that?

TW: Just come up and ask me or talk to any of our representatives across the 'verse.

TW: Sure.

KB:  All of this seems like a lot of work, for on man. How much assistance do you get and do you plan on recruiting?

TW: I have a great staff now already active, uploading directly to the CNS, such as you yourself. I have people on Hale's, Burnet, Suzhou, and all the moons. And we're always open to those who would like to join us.

The rim settlement of Blackburne Downport has been destroyed.



In a concentrated attack unlike any seen before, Reavers mobbed the isolated moon, burning the city as they went.

Residents hid in shelters until it became obvious that the attack was unlike other incursions. This time, the Reavers were moving in for good.



Blackburne admins put out a call for help to defend residents as they fled to ships. Fighters from across the sector did rearguard and struggled to keep the attackers from burning the ships before take off.

Defenders took heavy causaulties in wounded, but no fatalities. The last of the fighters scrambled onto the Osprey 2 as the rest of the city went up in flames. Refugee ships have spread to all moons in the sector where they have been taken in by locals.



(OOC: This is for real. Blackburne has closed down. However, Firefly's will live on. It will have it's grand opening in Hale's Moon's new sim to the west of the original town.)
